In 2009, Seventh Sense was engaged by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) to develop an Environment, Health and Safety Management System for both ADTA as well as the Abu Dhabi Tourism Sector. The EHSMS was developed in consultation with 30 representatives from the tourism sector nominated entities. The EHSMSs were developed in line with the new Abu Dhabi Emirate EHS Law and regulatory requirements and were approved shortly after submission to the Competent Authority. Our work included developing EHS policies, carrying out EHS risk assessments, identifying legal requirements, developing EHS targets and objectives, developing EHS management programs as well as auditing, training, and monitoring and reporting programs.
Seventh Sense was subsequently engaged by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority to help implement the approved EHSMS programs and associated EHSMS training initiatives. Our brief included coordinating and implementing the Tourism Sector EHSMS within the nominated tourism sector entities (i.e. all hotels, hotel apartments and tourism operators), and communication and coordination of sector-wide EHS Management Programs. Seventh Sense also supported ADTA to achieve 100% submission rate of hotel entity EHSMS (i.e. over 120 hotels). Seventh Sense has been ADTA’s sole training provider for comprehensive industry-wide EHSMS awareness, development and auditor training courses to more than 4000 trainees within the hotel sector.
Of particular significance is Seventh Sense’s lead role in assisting ADTA to set up and coordinate the world’s largest green hotels program established under the Tourism Sector EHSMS. The program comprises the region’s first benchmarking of hotel performance, the world largest number of hotels participating in a green hotels program, and the world first statutory green hotel design guidelines developed under MoU with Estidama. Seventh Sense delivered a total of eight (8) Green Hotel Workshops which were attended by more than 200 participants from a diverse collection of hotels within the Tourism Sector industry.
